MP Newsletter: March 2020

I was hoping my first newsletter would be in happier circumstances, however given recent developments I thought it best to use this opportunity to update you on what I have been doing to ensure the response to COVID-19 across Sevenoaks and Swanley is coordinated.

Health and Social Care Committee - personal protective equipment

At a meeting of the Health and Social Care Select Committee I raised the issue of personal protective equipment for GPs, which I have been discussing with local clinicians including the team at The Amherst Medical Practice, Sevenoaks and the Sevenoaks Primary Care Network.

Local volunteering opportunities

Sevenoaks District Council have established a volunteer register scheme for those wishing to volunteer to help others. Additionally, those who need help can register for assistance.  The idea is that this scheme supports and links in with other community initiatives.

Supermarket opening times in Sevenoaks and Swanley

I know many of you are worried about access to food - and we are in contact with supermarkets, who are restocking shelves as fast as they can. I urge everyone to only buy what they need and then there will be enough for everyone.

The Prime Minister's statement on COVID-19

The Prime Minister and Chief Medical Officer hosted a press conference yesterday to share the most up to date advice on Coronavirus/Covid 19; I would urge everyone to read his statement and follow Government advice.

Budget 2020

I was delighted to be in the chamber of the House of Commons yesterday to hear Rishi Sunak deliver his first budget statement as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Laura's pop-up supermarket surgery

It was great to meet with so many constituents at my pop-up supermarket surgery at Tesco in Riverhead. My huge thanks to everyone who took the time to speak to me and I look forward to following up on the issues raised.
