As many of you know, I’ve long been concerned about the impact of smartphones in schools. Following my recent panel discussion with parents, teachers, and campaigners to explore this issue, I’ve spent the summer gathering up-to-date information from schools across Sevenoaks, Swanley, and the Dartford Villages about their smartphone policies for the current school year. I’m very grateful to all the headteachers who replied.
I have put all the responses together in three simple, user-friendly, colour-coded tables, which can be downloaded below. Each covers a different group of schools — Primary, Secondary, and local Private Schools — making it easy to see every school’s approach at a glance.
I am delighted that more and more schools across the area are going smartphone-free, taking strong steps to support children’s learning, focus, and wellbeing. Research suggests that children at smartphone-free schools often achieve 1–2 grades higher at GCSE, highlighting just how much these policies can impact learning.
This is part of my ongoing work to keep local families informed, highlight the excellent work schools are doing, and continue campaigning on this issue to support children’s learning and wellbeing. I will make sure to update this page as I receive new information from schools, so parents always have the latest guidance.
