To mark Silver Sunday, I am encouraging everyone across Sevenoaks and Swanley to celebrate the older people in our communities and the contribution they have made to the country.
Over the last year and a half, the challenges of loneliness have been more acute than ever. And, while families and care home staff across our community have been heroic in their efforts to look after our loved ones, it is great to be able to celebrate them today in the glory they deserve.
Over the coming weeks Sevenoaks District Council are supporting a number of events locally to celebrate older people and give them the opportunity to try something new. For more details please visit: https://www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/.../your.../474/silver_sunday
Amongst these are a Coffee Morning being held on Thursday 7th October by Sevenoaks District Senior Action Forum (SDSAF) at the Stag Theatre. Here guests will be able to collect information from stalls hosted by Age UK, Sevenoaks Community Support Team and U3A. Free refreshments and lots of other activities are also available.
SDSAF do great work locally, so if you are 50 or over, do consider joining them - both for help and information.
Silver Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to bring generations together and tackle the loneliness that too many sadly experience.
