Following the overwhelming response to my recent survey of parents — where 65% said their children spend too much time on social media, and 74% believed smartphones make bullying worse — I’m hosting an event for local parents, and teachers, to explore the impact of smartphones on children and education, on Thursday 3rd July 2025, 6:30pm – 8:00pm.
The event will be exploring the impact of smartphones on young people, and how we can work together to build a healthier, safer digital environment for children. I’ll be bringing together schools, campaigners and local leaders to discuss the impact of smartphones on young people — from mental health and online safety to learning and social development.
The event will include a panel discussion followed by a Q&A, and we will be joined by:
- Jesse Elzinga (Head, Sevenoaks School — smartphone free policy in place)
- Andrew Reid (Head, Amherst Primary School — smartphone free policy in place)
- A representative from the campaign organisation Smartphone Free Childhood
- Arabella Skinner (Health Professionals for Safer Screens)
This event is open to local parents in the Sevenoaks, Swanley and Dartford Villages constituency. Advance registration is required due to limited space.
