I am delighted to announce that this week’s Community Hero is Rod Shelton. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Rod set up the Otford Road Friends Network. Supported by the parish council, the initiative has seen every road in Otford assigned at least two 'Road Friends' who are then available to help their neighbours by carrying out necessary shopping and collecting prescriptions.
At a time when people have found themselves having to isolate, this wonderful initiative has prevented people feeling alone and demonstrated the true strength of a community coming together.
I first spoke to Rod at the start of the outbreak and it is wonderful to hear just how far the network has come, and the difference it has made to so many individuals and families.
Rod’s story will be covered in print as part of our Community Heroes partnership with the Sevenoaks Chronicle, which is out on Thursday. If you know of any individual or organisation who deserves recognition please either visit my website, or email laura.trott.mp@parliament.uk.
